The next major project is the organization’s network in Nantes in April 2007 of a week of training in community life and local democracy for youth associations of our six countries. This project was initiated at the request of our community partners in the Caucasus who lack experience with regard to project management. .

Thomas Hammarberg Commissioner for Human Rights, Council of Europe, will begin tomorrow a contact visit four days in Turkey to discuss human rights with government officials as well as representatives of the authorities judicial and civil society.

Mr Hammarberg will also initiate discussions with the President of the Constitutional Court, the President of the Court of Cassation acting, and the President of the Commission on Human Rights in the National Assembly. Meetings with religious leaders, legal experts and leading NGOs of human rights are also planned.

The Commissioner is an independent, non-judicial. Its mission is to promote the idea and respect for human rights in the 46 member states of the Council of Europe. Originally from Sweden, Thomas Hammarberg is the second Commissioner for Human Rights, Council of Europe, in office since 1 April 2006.
